Phúc Trạch, Hà Tĩnh: The Agarwood Origin Behind OUD VIETNAM
For customers choosing agarwood, understanding its origin is an important part of understanding its value. A credible origin story should explain where the material comes from, how the local craft developed, and why that knowledge matters to the finished product.
OUD VIETNAM’s plantation and processing operations are based in Phúc Trạch Commune, Hà Tĩnh Province, Vietnam. Our connection to this region places our work within an established community of agarwood growers and craftspeople - a tradition documented by national media and local agricultural institutions.

A Documented Tradition of Agarwood Cultivation and Craftsmanship
Phúc Trạch’s reputation is supported by a history of practical involvement in agarwood production.
In a report published on 25 September 2024, Nhân Dân, Vietnam’s national newspaper, traced the local agarwood industry to the 1990s. The report described a production community engaged in cultivating dó trees, stimulating agarwood formation, harvesting and crafting products such as incense, bracelets and decorative pieces.[1]
The craft also received formal recognition. According to Hà Tĩnh Newspaper, the agarwood crafting village in Hamlet 8, Phúc Trạch, was recognised by the Hà Tĩnh Provincial People’s Committee as a traditional craft village in 2022.[2]
Together, these records establish Phúc Trạch as a place with a documented agarwood tradition, supported by decades of cultivation and specialised work.
Why Local Craftsmanship Matters
The value of agarwood depends partly on the skill used to prepare it.
After harvesting, craftspeople must carefully remove surrounding wood while preserving the resin-bearing sections. This requires close observation, controlled hand movements and experience in reading the material.

(Skilled artisans use their craftsmanship to create high-quality agarwood products.)
Hà Tĩnh’s Agricultural Extension Centre describes agarwood extraction and carving as meticulous work, noting that a lapse in concentration or an inaccurate cut can damage or waste valuable agarwood.[3]
For the buyer, this explains why craftsmanship deserves attention alongside appearance and price. The preparation of each piece influences how much valuable material is preserved and how the finished product is presented for use.
Phúc Trạch’s craft tradition provides an important foundation for this expertise: a community where growing, harvesting and working with agarwood are connected activities.
A Growing Region With Practical Knowledge of Agarwood
Reporting by Nhân Dân and Hà Tĩnh’s Agricultural Extension Centre identifies suitable growing conditions as a factor supporting dó cultivation in Phúc Trạch.[1][3]
The region’s significance also lies in the knowledge accumulated around the trees. Local production involves understanding when to work with mature trees, how to encourage agarwood formation, and how to prepare the resulting material.
These practices help explain Phúc Trạch’s established role in Vietnam’s agarwood industry. The geographical name alone, however, does not determine the quality of every piece. Individual products still need to be assessed according to their material, resin development, preparation and scent characteristics.
OUD VIETNAM’s Connection to Phúc Trạch
For OUD VIETNAM, Phúc Trạch is an operating base where our plantation and processing activities connect us to the source of our work.

That proximity gives us a practical foundation for understanding our materials and explaining them to customers. It also carries a responsibility: to represent origin accurately and provide clear information about the products we offer.
We believe customers should be able to ask meaningful questions about agarwood - where it was grown, how it was prepared, what its grade means and which product suits their intended use.
Our role is to connect the knowledge behind production with the experience of choosing and using agarwood.
An Origin Worth Understanding
Phúc Trạch’s documented craft history, officially recognised traditional village and specialised processing skills provide concrete reasons to take an interest in agarwood from this region.
For customers discovering OUD VIETNAM, these facts offer a stronger foundation for understanding our origins. They connect our products to a real place and a working tradition that can be explored beyond the showroom.
From Phúc Trạch, Hà Tĩnh, to our showrooms in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, we invite customers to discover Vietnamese agarwood with a clearer understanding of its source and the craftsmanship behind it.
